Fr. Paul’s Blog 7.1.18

The 79th General Convention of the Episcopal Church will take place in Austin, Texas from July 5 to 13, 2018. Once every three years, the governing body of our Church is convened and, when it is in session, it is one of the largest governing bodies in the world.

Our own Rev. Kathleen Gannon will attend the General Convention as an observer and will be blogging to share the resources and actions of the convention. Much of the action will be live streamed – you can go to episcopalchurch.org and there are links on that home page to the Media Hub and all that you need to follow along! The General Convention is again paperless and there is a mobile app to track scheduled events. Twitter proved to be very effective at the last convention – hash tags -#’s – from each house were used to report the latest actions.

Important issues are considered, prayed for and acted upon. Two events that you will likely see covered by the media are:

The Bishops Against Gun Violence rally on Sunday, July 8 at 9:30am.

The Prayer Vigil at the Texas Detention Center in Taylor, TX on Sunday, July 8th at noon.

Stay tuned and please pray in support of the work that God has given our Episcopal Church to do.

Finally, as we celebrate Independence Day this Wednesday, let us prayerfully recommit ourselves to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness as we work to make our world a more just and peaceful place.
