Fr. Paul’s Blog 10.14.18

As I write this bulletin letter, we are just beginning to learn the extent of Hurri-cane Michael’s impact on the Florida panhandle and elsewhere. We know that at least two people died as a result of the storm, countless others were injured, and many peo-ple were left homeless by this devastating storm. We pray for those who have died, for those who are suffering in the wake of the storm, and for those first responders en-gaged in the rescue effort. I ask your particular prayers for our friends Rev. David and Jennifer Knight, and their parish family of St. Simon’s on the Sound in Ft. Walton Beach. As things progress to the relief phase, we will have the opportunity to give our financial support to the communities impacted. Farther down the road, as communi-ties begin to rebuild, we will undoubtedly have opportunities for service projects. Speaking of community service, October is Fire Prevention and Awareness Month, and so, at our Sunday 10 am service, we will honor and thank the brave wom-en and men of the Delray Beach Fire Rescue Department. In honoring the DBFRD, we honor one of our own vestry members, Phil Wotton. Phil is the division chief for ocean rescue. This is the first of what we hope will be an annual service recognizing the life-saving work of these public servants. As you read this bulletin, two special journeys are underway. The Board mem-bers of the South Florida Haiti Project are in Bondeau and have carried our donated school supplies to the children and teachers of Bon Samaritan School. Irene and I and the other 42 pilgrims are on our way to the Holy Land. I will be posting regular pil-grimage updates on our St. Paul’s Facebook page!
