Fr. Paul’s Blog – 8.11.19

Welcome!
This Monday, August 12th, our campus here at St. Paul’s will once again buzz with the pitter patter of little feet as the new school year begins! Both our Day School and our Paul’s Place afterschool program will begin school year 2019-20. To help get our children and teachers off on the right foot for the new school year, this weekend we bless our children, the backpacks they will carry, and all teachers.
Our Children, Youth, and Family Ministry will sponsor several events in the coming weeks to kick off the new school year. Next Sunday, August 18th, after the 10 am service, we will have a special family lunch. On Friday, August 23rd, we will have a Vacation Bible School Reunion “Camping Again in God’s Garden Jamboree Family Dinner.” On the weekend of August 24th and 25th, we will have our annual Food Drive for CROS Ministries. We’ll need lots of helping hands on August 25th after the 10 am service, as we will sort all of the collected food. On September 8th, Sunday School begins.
Finally, this past week I was deeply moved by the story of Ruben Martinez, an 11 year-old boy who started the #ElPasoChallenge in response to the horrific mass shooting there last week. Ruben embodies the words of the prophet Isaiah, “a little child shall lead them.” [Is. 11:6] The El Paso Challenge invites us to do 22 random acts of kindness to honor the memory of the 22 people who were murdered in El Paso.
Let’s respond to this senseless violence, which was motivated by hate, with love. Please join me in taking up the El Paso Challenge.

Blessings in Christ, our Hope,
Fr. Paul+
