Discussion Class on Judaism and Orthodox Christianity

Mondays, January 15 – February 12, 2018 – 5 Monday evenings,  7pm-8:30pm

Purpose: To gain a respectful understanding of Judaism and Orthodox Christianity and reflect on how a deeper understanding of their distinctive beliefs might strengthen our own Christian faith. In addition to the five evening classes, we are planning a visit to Temple Sinai to observe a  10 AM Shabbat Service on Saturday, January 27, and a visit to St Mary’s Orthodox Coptic Church (Lyons Road) on Saturday,  February 10, for a 6:30 PM Vespers service, followed by dialogue in both cases.

Texts:  A Concise Introduction to World Religions by William Oxtoby and Alan Segal (copies are available to loan to all participants) and Introduction to the Coptic Orthodox Church, by Fr. Tadra Y. Malaty,  (copy is available digitally for all)
